E-Tolling

Solution overview

Highways manufacturers attempt to build toll stations to acquire income from investment for highway construction as well as supplying its maintenance and repairs costs.

In these stations, driver stops his/her car; then he/she shall obtain a receipt for the money that he gives. This makes, firstly, in the place of toll stations in highways form a queue that brings a waste of time for drivers.

Secondly, whereas the toll bills are considered bonds, in the issue around transportation and delivery in different working shifts, they make cumbersome formalities and problems. Nowadays in the world, to solve the above problems, RFID systems have been replaced with the old toll payment systems.

In this way, an RFID tag is attached to each car’s glass, depending on the amount paid by driver, tag will be charged in system; on the other hand, reader and suitable antenna to read these tags are installed in the place of toll gates.

When a vehicle reaches the gate location, its own tag is read by reader and relevant software will reduce a certain amount from tag credit. Thus, without requiring stopping car by driver, he/she pays his toll and passes. The use of such system has the advantage for drivers that are no longer delayed in the queues for toll; meanwhile, by getting a discount for receiving the credit tags, they can also reduce their own costs.

An advantage that this system makes for highway manufacturers is increasing the highway traffic and thus, increasing the revenue. For application of toll E-payment, mid-range passive system is usually used.
